Luisah Teish - Illumination Through Story

Luisah Teish – Illumination Through Story

Check it out: Luisah Teish – Illumination Through Story

Storytelling is one of the most powerful foundational skills humans have, however, a majority of us have never consciously learned how to utilize it. Perhaps 90% of us think, “Well, I’m not really a storyteller.”

s1.jpg?02030902

That thought is “fiction” because subconsciously we’re constantly making sense of our lives, relationships and missions through a narrative. We share our dreams through story. We enroll people in our companies through story. We form romantic unions through story.

The question is whether the “tales” that we tell about ourselves are ones that liberate us – and lead to successes – or point us toward depression and failures? Do your stories open you up to new possibilities or encourage you to shut down in life?

The transformational powers of storytelling aren’t only beneficial for self-proclaimed “artists” and “writers” – for we are ALL on a sacred journey of healing and wholeness, liberation and redemption, hardship and grace. And the stories we create are the threads of darkness and light that weave the tapestry of our lives.

Storytelling is the most potent way to access the unconscious myths that run our lives, our culture – and our world. When you can unlock the doors to more powerful, liberating and transformative storytelling, you have a master key to a better and more fulfilling life.

With the right guidance, you can learn to transmute suffering into art, your hardships into beauty. Storytelling can be used to raise your consciousness into another level of embodiment – through reconnecting with your emotional life and the undercurrents of your psyche.

Storytelling – at the deepest level – can be a pathway to freedom and illumination. Rescripting how we see our lives can turn our most feared traumas into our greatest successes, and our failures into stories of redemption. When we do this, we reclaim parts of our Self and expand our sense of wholeness.

s2.jpg?02030902

When we see the narrative arc of our lives with fresh eyes, we are freed from old stories – and enter a new field of possibilities.

So it’s time for us to stop seeing ourselves as “non-storytellers,” and realize that we are ALL storytellers. We may just not be great ones… yet!

That’s where Transformation Through Story comes in.

Even though we didn’t learn storytelling skills in school, these sacred techniques CAN be learned in powerful and effective ways with a master teacher like Luisah Teish – who has trained thousands in the basic principles, and inspired everything from books to plays to major speeches.

What Luisah knows, and can share with you, are the specific universal elements of telling stories in ways that are compelling, engaging, life-enhancing – and just more enjoyable. This applies to our internal storylines, as well as the ones we use in the outer world.

If you are a speaker, your ability to tell a potent, vulnerable story is the difference between a flat reception and a standing ovation. If you’re in sales, it can be the difference between closing a deal or losing it.

So HOW do we become better storytellers? And how do we unite these skills with our commitment to grow spiritually? In other words, how can the art and practice of storytelling help us to transform our lives?

We all know the feeling of being spellbound by a story – hanging on to every vivid detail – whether it’s in a movie, or at the feet of a beloved grandmother.

Luisah is a master weaver of empowering stories that help us shine our soul’s light far more brightly. Learning the skills of the storyteller helps you to create new personal guiding myths. It helps you understand how to change the narration – and the destination – of your life path.

s3.jpg?02030902

In this 8-week program, you’ll learn foundational skills we all should have been taught in school – those that help you mine the gold from your traumas and tragedies and understand the epic quality of what you’ve overcome. Louisah will guide you to see the span of your life in a wholly new way.

Finally, she’ll show you how to connect with your ancestral lineage – and bend the arc of your family storyline toward a more hope-filled conclusion.

You’ll emerge knowing that you ARE a great storyteller – one able to transform the narrative of your life, and harness the power of story for your writing, speaking and enrollment of others in your dreams.

By joining this program, you’ll:

  • Enter into your childhood memories with the eyes of a storyteller.
  • Differentiate between solar and lunar stories.
  • Understand your family lineage through a new lens.
  • Learn how to harvest the key transformative insights from challenges you’ve surmounted in a way that inspires and motivates others.
  • Activate your inner artist and learn how to court your inner muse.

  • Learn how to activate and inhabit mythological characters – giving you more freedom and greater access to your mythic imagination.
  • Navigate the shadow sides of life with greater skill.

What You’ll Discover in These 8 Weeks

Each weekly LIVE teaching, activation and training session will build upon the next – so that you’ll develop a more multi-dimensional understanding of the practices, tools and principles you’ll need to free yourself from old stories – and enter a new field of possibilities.

All of the following live sessions are on Thursdays at 5:00 pm US Pacific time.

Module 1: (Aug 15)

Who Do You Think You Are?

Cultivating Awareness of Your Stories and What You Choose to Express

w1.jpg?02030902

We begin with an assessment of our present Self image by addressing the responses we automatically give when someone asks, “Who do you think you are?” We will listen to the names we have been called, review the habits we have developed and reflect upon the decisions we have made. Thereby, we will bring to light that may have been overlooked. This module will help to:

  • Remove the fear of self-expression
  • Evaluate and value personal life experiences.
  • Gain insights about your present condition.

Module 2: (Aug 22)

The Soft, Warm Darkness

Integrating Your Lineages, Your Past and Those Places in Darkness

w2.jpg?02030902

The Ancestral Line visualization is a process that relaxes the body and mind in order to make contact with the spirit of the ancestors. Here we will identify inherited attitudes and beliefs by recalling and recording childhood memories. This module will help you to:

  • Reclaim parts of your Self and expand your sense of wholeness.
  • Bring your consciousness into another level of embodiment.
  • Connect the undercurrents of your psyche with your emotional life.
  • Sink your roots deeper into your lineage.
  • Better understand your place in the family stream.

Module 3: (Aug 29)

Twinkling In the Dark

Understanding the Role of Archetypal Stories for Humanity and in Your Personal Life

w3.jpg?02030902

Our ancestors translated their experience of the cosmos into myth; their relationship to the natural world into folklore; and their interactions with each other into legend. We have inherited these archetypal stories and will discuss the ways in which they shape our culture and our personal lives. This will help us to:

  • Understand the nature and function of myth and story.
  • Discover the complementary nature of solar and lunar myths.
  • Experience myths and stories from several cultures.
  • Learn how to activate and inhabit mythological characters.
  • Provide greater access to your mythic imagination.

Module 4: (Sept 5)

Embracing Eclipses

Tapping into the Powerful Wisdom of Your Dreams

w4.jpg?02030902

At night, when we dream, we experience the time of Eclipse. Perhaps our culture has taught us to avoid looking into the dream’s darkness where the monsters Fear and Pain reside. However, in the mythology of the West African diaspora an Eclipse is perceived as the Sun and the Moon making love to each other. It is a time when the hidden powers embrace and flow into each other. So it is time for us to confront the feelings of isolation and alienation, to feel and heal the hurt, to become aware of the creative potential that sleeps within. In this module you will learn to:

  • Recall and record your dreams.
  • Enter into your dreamscape with the eyes of a storyteller.
  • Confront the traumas lurking beneath the horizon of perception.
  • Turn your suffering into art and your hardships into beauty.

Module 5: (Sept 12)

Illumination’s First Light

Open the Channels to Your Inner Muse and Allow it to Express

w5.jpg?02030902

Now we breathe deeply and prepare to transform our experiences into works of art. We will begin by creating a series of writing prompts that entice us to rescript our memories and dreams. In this module you will learn to:

  • Write freely and consistently to reflect sensory and emotional awareness.
  • Court your inner muse, and activate your inner artist.
  • Blend poetry with imagery to transform energy.

Module 6: (Sept 19)

Illumination’s Bright Light

Learn the Art of Your Storytelling

w6.jpg?02030902

The Art of Storytelling is the grandmother of the Church, the School and the Theater. It illuminates and preserves the wisdom of the ages. Storytelling demonstrates that we are folk characters and our lives are expressions of Spirit revealing Itself through our stories. When we learn how to share them in community we cast a beam of light for those who come behind us on the spiritual path. In this module you will learn the basic principles of storytelling including:

  • How to select which stories to tell.
  • Writing stories to be spoken.
  • Mythologizing characters from real life.
  • Creating props and costumes,
  • The Many forms of “Fiction”

Module 7: (Sept. 26)

The Shining Light

Expressing Your Story as a Gift for Others

w7.jpg?02030902

The time has come to share your stories in community. How is this to be done? Who is your audience? When and where is storytelling the best way to communicate thoughts, ideas and feelings? In this module we will discuss:

  • How to create new guiding myths for yourself and your community.
  • How to incorporate your storytelling skills into your spiritual autobiography.
  • How to invite others to share in your dreams through the power of story – written and spoken.
  • How to apply marketable storytelling skills in schools, churches and corporations.

Module 8: (Oct 3)

Light Everlasting

Aligning Yourself with Your Future and The Spirit of Celebration

w8.jpg?02030902

“I am a writer – I contribute regularly to Ms Magazine online, and write documentaries on women’s issues for the Feminist Majority, I am also a playwright who has had the privilege to be produced many times, and gotten many awards and accolades for my work. I met Luisah Teish many years ago when my activism was still new, and she was, and is to this day, one of the steadiest and most brilliant influences I have had in my life.

Teish has a tremendous knowledge and understanding of the history of women, African Americans, and all peoples who have been voiceless in this culture. She has taught me so much about this history that I am a better activist because of her. I also know that my writing has been infused with her tireless love for the human spirit, and her courage and tenacity in the face of life’s hardships and injustices.

There is nobody like Teish anywhere else. If you are lucky enough to study with her, meet with her, or even listen to her on tape, you are truly hearing the voice of somebody authentic, unique and compassionate.
